About Us

The Chillicothe Church of Christ is an independent, non-denominational fellowship of believers who seek to follow Christ and identify ourselves by and with his name. We are just ordinary people: blue collar and white collar, students and teachers, employed and retired, all with the desire to go to heaven. The focus of our ministry is Jesus Christ and connecting people to him. We do not claim to be the only Christians but we are Christians only. Our goal is unity among all of God’s people, not division. We acknowledge that Jesus Christ is the head of the church, both universally and locally. In all things to the church, “He is the head of the body, the church, so that in everything he might have the supremacy” (Colossians 1:18).

Another goal of the Chillicothe Church of Christ is to take biblical principles and practices and reproduce them in contemporary times and often in contemporary ways. We readily admit we are not perfect. We realize that we are a work in progress and that Christianity is a journey and not a destination.  We are all on a journey of some sort. The only thing is that some people aren’t quite sure where they are headed. At the Chillicothe Church of Christ we would dearly love to share our journey with you toward our ultimate face-to-face encounter with God.

Unlike some of our friends and neighbors in other Christian fellowships, churches of Christ have no denominational structure or hierarchy. In seeking the simplest New Testament pattern, all congregations are completely autonomous and without any higher authority except God and His revelation of Himself through the Bible. Most congregations, including the Chillicothe Church of Christ, are led by a group of elders assisted by servant leaders. No central authority represents all of us. Churches of Christ around the world are bound together only in matters of faith.

Ministers/Preachers in churches of Christ are not considered “clergy” but as equal members of God’s family with all the other members. There is no special status and no elite title for preachers. They are usually commissioned by a local congregation. While there are no educational requirements for ministers, they may have had training in Bible and preachers’ schools which are an equivalent to undergraduate Bible colleges. There are also several universities and colleges which offer not only undergraduate programs but also graduate programs in theology equal to any seminary training. Universities, associated with churches of Christ, include Pepperdine University (Malibu, CA), Abilene Christian University (Abilene, TX), Harding University (Searcy, AR), Lipscomb University (Nashville, TN), and Oklahoma Christian University (Oklahoma City, OK) among many others.

Hopefully, this brief description will give you a basic idea of who we are at the Chillicothe Church of Christ.
